2000 Baseball

Goal This Year:
36 games, same as 1999. Last year was pretty sad, but I can't back down. Happiness is getting Red Sox tickets the day they go on sale (I won't sit in section 4 ever again!!) ... every day should be so good.

Tuesday, April 11
(Opening Day at Fenway)
Minnesota Twins (4) at Boston Red Sox (13) Section 92 (right field box) Carl Everett may have gotten lost on the way to the game, but he still hit a gorgeous home run first at-bat. Yah!
Monday, May 1 Detroit Tigers (6) at Boston Red Sox (10) Section 25 (grandstand) realized with horror that our Jan 15 Sec 25 tickets are all home-plate obstructed (but can see Wendell Kim just fine). I was happy to see CJ and sad he didn't last very long.
Friday, May 19 Detroit Tigers (0) at Boston Red Sox (3) Section 25 (grandstand) Carl Everett's home runs are just always so beautiful -- I do believe they have a style all their own.
Saturday, June 3 Durham Bulls (4) at Pawtucket Red Sox (8) left field GA Martha came and even had a pleasant time!
Monday, June 5 Arizona Diamondbacks (3) at Chicago Cubs (4) right field ... but it was nice couldn't have been a better game ... the Friendly Confines are! and a splendid place to watch a game in 30-degree weather. The Cubs rallied in the bottom of the 10th after half the park left. Yippee!!!
Friday, June 16 Toronto Blue Jays (4) at Boston Red Sox (7) Section 25 (grandstand) convinced the older Italian guys next to us to stay till the end. when you come all the way from Italy to see Fenway Park, what are you going to do?? Seeing him use his son's cell phone like a walkie-talkie killed me. :-)
Monday, June 19 New York Yankees (22) at Boston Red Sox (1) Section 23 (grandstand) ummm ... we stayed for the whole thing ...?
Tuesday, June 20 New York Yankees (3) at Boston Red Sox (0) Section 93 (2nd row box) Pedro gave up a rare multi-run homer. Not a good followup to last night.
Thursday, July 13 New York Mets (3) at Boston Red Sox (4) Section 25 (grandstand) Pedro's back from the DL, Piazza's OK and Daubach hits it to win, bottom of the 9th, two outs. "Frenzy" is right!!!
Tuesday, August 15 Tampa Bay Devil Rays (3) at Boston Red Sox (1) the trim plexiglass silent world of the 600 Club They don't serve hot dogs until the 3rd inning up there. Too bad for us Jeff Fassero threw about 85 pitches in the first two innings. Welcome back Lou Merloni: 3 for 5, 1 error.
Saturday, August 19 Texas Rangers (0) at Boston Red Sox (9) Section 15 (grandstand) yah Pedro 7 innings & 10K, no walks
Sunday, August 20 Pittsburgh Pirates (7) at Cincinnati Reds (3) Sec. 307, then waaay up with the cobwebs top of the outfield ummm
Wednesday, August 23 Anaheim Angels (1) at Boston Red Sox (3) WP: Ohka LP: Ortiz Section 25 (grandstand) 3-hour rain delay; nice to see two rookie pitchers both do decent work. Plenty of cabs outside the park at 1 am, yay!
Saturday, September 2 Seattle Mariners (4) at Boston Red Sox (1) dress-coded 600 Club but smirky Dan Duquette held the door for me in my T-shirt. Another rain delay but they started serving hot dogs early. Hard to see Garcia blow it.
Sunday, September 3 Seattle Mariners (5) at Boston Red Sox (0) Section 25 (grandstand) This was much harder to watch, as sad as yesterday was. Bases loaded in the eighth and Nomar strikes out, continuing his slump.
Monday, September 4 Seattle Mariners (1) at Boston Red Sox (5) Section 29 (grandstand) 7:45 am is a bad time to realize there is no longer a Dunkin Donuts in Kenmore Sq. ... Carlton Fisk Day ... Pedro 8 innings, 11K (3 A-Rod, 3 Wilson), 1 walk. Bichette finally hit, yah. And finally, Lansing's out of the lineup.
Sunday, September 10 New York Yankees (6) at Boston Red Sox (2) Section 28 (grandstand) Baseball trivia: Dwight Gooden got a funky save by pitching 4 innings
Wednesday, September 20 Cleveland Indians (5) at Boston Red Sox (4) Section 25 (grandstand) Second game of the first double-header. A loser in every way, plus no cleaning in between games. I would have made do if there'd been a win to sit through. And that's why ya sit on the third base side ... TO WATCH RHEAL LET VIZQUEL STEAL HOME!!!! Unbelievable.
Thursday, September 21 Cleveland Indians (8) at Boston Red Sox (5) Bleachers Sec 38 OK, REALLY the last time I sit in the bleachers. Second game of the second double-header. Pain, pain, there was only pain.
Friday, September 22 Baltimore Orioles (3) at Boston Red Sox (1) Box 79 Row C The only highlight was seeing Cal Ripken Jr. standing next to Wendell Kim.
Sunday, September 24
(last regular-season game at Fenway)
Baltimore Orioles (1) at Boston Red Sox (0) Section 25 (grandstand) Simply a heartbreaking end, at the very end of the game. I wanted Gilkey to run, I did. Did Wendell in. Waaah.
