Addicted to Coke!

For the record, it's been well over two months since I had a Coke, and yes, I really miss it... but I would rather be losing weight!!!

Coke is an interesting beastie -
  • For one thing - it's acidic enough to take the paint off your car, and yes, mechanics often use it to get grease or rust off bolts. Also, the syrup is still sold in drug stores as an anti-nausea medicine.
  • Coca-Cola was first mixed in the back yard of Dr. John Smith Pemberton, in Atlanta, Georgia on May 8, 1886. The formula was brought to the nearby Jacobs' Pharmacy where it made its debut as a soft drink the same day, selling for only 5 cents.
  • Coca-Cola's original formula included extracts of the African kola nut and coca leaves, both strong stimulants. It was one of those patent medicines sold in the 1800's that actually contained traces of cocaine. By 1903, the use of cocaine was so controversial that the Coca-Cola Company decided to only use "spent coca leaves". It also stopped advertising Coca-Cola as a cure for headaches and other ills.
  • Coca-Cola was first shipped in used whiskey kegs and barrels, but they were painted red to give them a distinctive mark. The color red has been associated with the product ever since.
  • The consumption of Coca-Cola Classic in the U.S. exceeds each of the following: bottled water, juices, powdered drinks, wine and distilled spirits. There are 7,000 Coca-Cola products consumed worldwide every single second!
  • The slogan "Good to the Last Drop" was first used by the Coca-Cola Company in 1908. It later became the slogan for Maxwell House coffee.
  • In 1943, an American soldier stationed in Italy received 2 bottles of Coca-Cola sent from home. He raffled them off at 25 cents a shot and made over $4,000 for charity!

MULTIPLE USES FOR COCA-COLA

  • To clean a toilet bowl: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl. Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then brush and flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
  • To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
  • To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
  • To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in a carbonated soda to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
  • To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into a load of greasy work clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular wash cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.
  • It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

It's all because of the phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid is not a particularly strong acid. It is a stronger acid than acetic acid (which is commonly combined with propylene glycol for ear drops) but weaker than the hydrochloric acid already present in your tummy right now! In fact, orange juice has nearly TWICE the acidity of Coke!! The .055 percent level of phosphoric acid is far below the 1.09 percent acid content of an orange ... Don't worry about the acid dissolving your teeth, though, sugar will rot your teeth faster than anything else!!

What's in a Coke anyway? Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Flavors, Caffeine. Each 12 can has 38 grams of carbohydrates!!
