How to get along on the
planet, follow Christ,
and have a good time while you're at it.
Part Two: Money
can't buy me love
Like it says in the old Beatles song, "Money can't
buy me love". That is so true, isn't it? But some people try to
do that anyway, buy their way into love and and purchase intimacy. Some go on a
"date" and think they are "owed" something for spending money for
dinner, or a movie. Or they buy pornographic magazines, or rent X-rated
movies. But you can't buy real love. Read Proverbs 7: 25 - 27 and see what it
says about those that try to buy love. Some people get it all mixed up. They
long for love and intimacy so much, that they somehow think sex and love are the same
thing. Well, they sure aren't!
Movies and the media make it all look so glamorous. They don't mention the unexpected
stuff, like babies, disease, loss of self-respect and heartache. And they certainly don't
mention sin! The bible says that when you try to buy love, you sin not only against God,
but yourself. The results are worse in many ways than those of any other sin.
God has a better idea. One word - purity.
Purity is not a state of "perfection". It is a state of mind and heart that
affects how you behave. It is the mindset that puts the way God wants us to live ahead of
any earthly desires. It's for everyone.
It's something you might not be able to do all
at once, and may fail at time and time again, but it's something that God wants us all to
work towards. We must be careful of what movies and television we watch, what we read, and
who our friends are. We must ask God to help us every single day to be pure. He will give
us strength, when we ask. What at first seemed completely impossible is reachable, if we
allow God to help us.
As you play, go to school, and go through your day, don't sell yourself short for a moment
of passing fun. Some things you may see others do may indeed look like a lot of fun.
Others may tell you something different than what your parents have taught you.
It's easy to be confused. Ask God for help, when you are confused, and He
really will help you. Get your own Bible and read it. Talk to your folks, your
pastor, a Christian friend or your teacher about your questions.
You are worth so very much to God, more than
silver, gold or diamonds could ever amount to!! Be worth that much to yourself!
