The "other" Statue of Liberty Sunday morning we finally found our friend Patricia and had the pleasure of having brunch with her. Afterwards, we wandered over to Central Park. On the way she showed us something simply amazing! This is one of the original working "models" Bertholdi used when he made the "real" Statue of Liberty. Apparently, as local legend tells us, a business man who was a new immigrant loved the Statue so much that he bought this model and had it placed on top of this building that he owned. It is on a side street between Lincoln Center and Central Park. Our friend Jay, who had worked in that area for many years was just astounded, he'd never even seen it before! Amazing what cool things are hidden out in plain sight, huh? |
