Looking across the valley we could see that the sun lingered "out there, somewhere". The path took another turn, and went up again, another run-off gully, the stones slipping beneath our feet. We came up to the top, another wide spot in the trail, and had to choose to go right or left. Left curved on the flat part, back west again. We peeked down the west fork a little bit, but I wanted to head up and east, so headed back to the right fork. All of a sudden, Nathaniel stopped dead in his tracks. My intrepid tracker had spotted some wild life in the brush! A big ol' toad! He was so excited! But Grandmother Toad was not, and with a smile and a hop she headed back into the bushes, leaving Nat to marvel over her wonderful camouflage, and wishing he could "pet" her.
