The trail wound up a little more, and then leveled out in a clearing formed by some huge rocks, left by some ancient glacier. We flopped down on the rocks and looked up through the trees. The sky had turned turquoise, and as we looked out over the valley, the sun went down behind the ridge. We called this place Sunset Rock.

We laid down for a few minutes, and sipped some water. Far away, maybe from one of the houses in the valley, we could hear a radio playing. We just kind of existed for a while. Just watched the birds, looked out at the tiny lights of the tiny cars going by on the tiny road, way, way down there...
