Future Business Leaders of America is a non-profit educational association made up of students pursuing careers in business or business education. It is also for those students who just want to learn about business and free-enterprise. Its purpose is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship. The national organization offers programs and services which students and business people learn about one another.
FBLA is a very active group in Massachusetts. There are presently ten local chapterst whose main purpose is to give the students an opportunity to develop leadership skills through the many activities sponsored through their chapters.
For those interested in organizational leadership, FBLA chapters have seven officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Parliamentarian, and Reporter. Some chapters also include an executive board also consisting of other chairpersons such as: Fundraising, American Enterprise Day, Nominating, Project Help (March of Dimes), Cotillion, Social, Middle School Dance, WNEC Executive Simulation, Community Service, Campbell Labels, and Go for the Gold. Applications are also available for State and National Offices for those members who feel they are qualified and dedicated enough to serve.
TOMORROWıS BUSINESS LEADER, a magazine published two times during the school year, is mailed to each member who have paid their dues. It offers timely articles on business and professional topics as well as current association news from all regions.
FBLA also offers the National Fall Leadership Conference (NFLC) which takes place in each geographic region of the U.S. and gives students a way to share ideas and reaffirm common goals. They participate in professional development sessions and acquire an understanding of the entire national organization. The Massachusetts state chapter has attended conferences held in Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, Pittsburg and Hershey, PA, and Rochester and Buffalo, NY, E. Brunswick, NJ, Providence, RI. as well as many other locations. This yearıs conference will be held in Greensboro, NC.
