Indian Goddess
INDIAN or NEPALESE Carved wood relief panel possibly 12th-15th Century.

Central figures are on a chariot drawn by two horses. The central figure is seated in a posture of royalty, flanked by female servants, one waving a fly whisk, and with charioteers at either side. In the far ends, there are Yakshis, female nature/fertility goddesses holding a tree, with one arm around the trunk and upper hand holding the tree branch. Their presence suggests Buddhist subject matter. Dimensions 9" x 38".
