Apponequet Summer Reading Program
Grade Ten

The Social Studies Department has established a summer reading program to promote the enjoyment of reading
outside the academic environment and to help encourage lifelong reading habits and experiences.

All Grade 10 students are required to read ANY two books from the extensive list provided. During the week of
September 8th - 12th, 2003, students will write two essays in their World History II class. Students will be allowed to
bring to class 2 4x6" index cards with appropriate notes (1 card per book). Oral presentations will also be considered as
an optional assignment. Using the assessment rubic found below, students will be assessed. The results of these
assessments will be averaged into the first quarter World History II grade. It is recommended that students take notes
as they read so as to increase comprehension. This list has been given to area libraries and local bookstores. You may wish to
consider purchasing used books or borrowing them from other students.

The use of abridged versions is acceptable.
However, the use of Cliff notes (or similar) is not.
