Jim Grasela

Jim Grasela is the School Library Media Specialist at Apponequet.

Jim graduated from UMass Dartmouth, the former SMU, in 1974 with a B.A. degree in history, English, and social studies.

Mr. Grasela received an M.L.I.S. (Master of Library and Information Studies) degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1994.

He is certified by the Department of Education to teach History, English, instructional technology, and social studies. Additionally, he is certified by the D.O.E. as a school librarian, an audio-visual media specialist, and a unified media specialist.

Mr. Grasela is also certified by the Massachusetts Board of Library Comissioners as a professional librarian.

Jim Grasela is an active member of ALA (American Library Association); the AASL (American Association of School Librarians); MLA (Massachusetts Library Association); SMSLMA (Southeastern Massachusetts School Library Media Association); and the MSLMA (Massachusetts School Library Media Association).

Jim is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He teaches in the Library Media Services program.

Jim is currently (2003) President of SEMLS (Southeastern Massachusetts Library System).

SEMLS is one of six regional library systems under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Board of Library Comissioners (MBLC). SEMLS covers all public, school, academic, private and special libraries in the region which extends south from Quincy, MA to Rhode Island. The region extends east to Nantucket and west to Central Massachusetts.

Recently, Jim co-authored the book LINCOLN PARK REMEMBERED, a history of a local amusement park -- where Jim worked as a youth.

Jim also completed work on DISCOVER NEW BEDFORD, a driving tour of the city, and on a book on Acushnet Park - a local now-defunct park. He is working on a book on the life of Bishop Charles Manuel "Sweet Daddy" Grace.

Jim is a member of the honor societies of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Phi Mu

He joined the staff at Apponequet in 1976 as a media technician.

He became the school library media specialist in 1985.

Irene Ashley

Irene Ashley is the school's Assistant Librarian.

Mrs. Ashley is a 1962 graduate of Apponequet!

Irene has had extensive experience in the public library arena, having served as a library assistant at the James White Library in East Freetown for many years.

Additionally, she is a member of the Board of Library Trustees for the Town of Freetown.

Mrs. Ashley has been at Apponequet since 1977.
