Why Train Your Pet?

Thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized each year in shelters across the country.  The majority of these unfortunate pets were turned in by their owners for common problems such as housetraining, barking, jumping, digging, destructive behavior, separation anxiety, and aggression with other dogs, cats, or people.  Sadly, these problems could be corrected with time, patience, and the assistance of a trainer.  Training will give you and your pet a great sense of freedom and accomplishment.

What Method of Training Do We Use?

Pets that are trained through the primary use of positive reinforcement tend to have a stronger bond with their owners.  In a recent publication by the American Humane Association, "Guide to Humane Dog Training," the AHA promotes positive reinforcement techniques and states "By focusing on a dog's pleasure as a motivation for obeying, you build a far more reliable response than with fear -- with the added bonus of your dog learning to trust you.  And trust leads to greater willingness on your dog's part to offer new behaviors, making training easier for both of you.  Trust also builds the foundation for a stronger, life-long bond of affection and respect between you and your canine family member."   With methods such as our "lure-and-reward",  you can build a pleasant, harmonious relationship.  You will learn how to do away with behaviors you do not want in your pet while encouraging the ones you do. What does this mean in "real life" terms? Your canine will be able to do the following after completing one of our private programs.

Take a carefree walk with your dog without pulling or lunging

Have your dog sit for you while you carry groceries into the house

Have your dog lie down and stay while you and your family eat dinner

Ask your dog to "leave it" when he’s playing with your favorite socks

Greet visitors to your home calmly without jumping up and creating havoc

Have your dog come back to you when you call him with just one command every time

During our training program, we will teach you and your dog how to communicate effectively without yelling or speaking in a loud voice.  We will show you the techniques  to reinforce good behavior and discourage behavior that is undesired.
