The Silent Clowns Film Series

This fall/winter season, the Silent Clowns Film Series celebrates the 30th anniversary of the publishing of "The Silent Clowns" by Walter Kerr, with 6 programs showcasing the major silent comedians featured in the book.

With surprise bonus "extras" at every show!!

Sunday, September 25 at 2pm
Charlie Chaplin, "Superclown"
Charlie Chaplin's "Little Fellow", who belonged everywhere and nowhere, in four heroic roles, performing super human feats: The Fireman, The Count, Easy Street, and The Adventurer (all 1916-17).

Sunday, October 9 at 2pm
Buster Keaton: Life and Lens
"Sherlock, Jr." -- plus "The Goat" and "The Blacksmith"
Buster's iconic role as a small-town movie projectionist who dreams of being a great detective, and climbs into the movie showing at his theater.

Sunday, October 23 at 2pm
Harold Lloyd: Virtuous American
"Hot Water" -- plus "Hey There!" and "From Hand To Mouth"
We present one of Lloyd's overlooked crowd-pleasers in this program, plus two early "glasses" shorts.

Sunday, November 6 at 2pm
Who Was Harry Langdon?
"Tramp, Tramp, Tramp" -- "plus Feet of Mud"
Baby-faced Harry Langdon goes on a hero's journey as he enters a cross-country footrace to save his father's shoe business and to win the heart of a young Joan Crawford.

Sunday, November 20 at 2pm
The Unexpected Raymond Griffith (and Lupino and "Ham")
"Paths To Paradise" -- plus "Drama Deluxe" and "Careful Please"
The alway unflappable, silk-hatted Raymond Griffith plays a con artist who teams up with a female con artist in this hilarous battle of wits.  Also on the program are mid-1920s shorts sensations Lupino Land and Lloyd Hamilton.

Sunday, December 4 at 2pm
Laurel & Hardy: The Saving Turnaround
"Putting Pants on Philip", "From Soup to Nuts",
"We Faw Down" and "That's My Wife".
At the tail end of the silent era, Laurel & Hardy (after long solo careers) became a team and made their mark with a slow-and-steady, character driven matter-of-factness about their comedy.  This program's four short subjects show the many sides of Stan and Ollie.
