Manifold Release 4.50 User Manual Goes Online
Our next release of Manifold, Release 4.50, is a major improvement in almost all areas. If you would like a comprehensive preview of 4.5, browse the Web version of the 4.50 user manual, or download the Windows Help version of the Release 4.50 user manual. The download is a 3 MB zipfile that expands into a standard Microsoft help system of over 8 MB. Once downloaded, it is very fast to browse. The web version does not require a download, but it is very image-intensive and thus may be slow to view on slow Internet connections. This beta edition of the user manual does not have all the scripting and formulas examples, but it nontheless covers a lot of ground! Release 4.50 includes point in polygon spatial overlays, area operations such as finding the intersection of multiple areas and joining areas, transparent areas and much more. Detail, above right: Release 4.50 includes a cool WorldView window to display map locations on a 3D globe.
If you prefer browsing the manual over the web, try browsing a sample topic, Buffer Zones and ViewBots right now. This is a comprehensive tutorial topic from the Examples book. If you want to see the entire manual, jump directly to the table of contents for the Web version of the 4.50 user manual,

US Time Zones for Manifold Users, Free!
Ever try to find a good map of time zones? This is a sneak preview of one of the many new maps on the Manifold System Release 4.50 CD. It's a map of continental US time zones, including the two states where Daylight Savings Time is not observed. The map was created by taking US county data encoded with time zone information provided by the US Government, including county splits for the ten counties that are split by time zones. The thousands of county areas were assembled into complete time zone areas using manifold.net's Topology Factory product (a cool new product that will be released in 1999... stay tuned). This map has been contributed to the Free World Data Foundation archives by manifold.net. The illustration at right shows the map in Lambert Conformal Conic projection.
