In a 1997 study by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, School Uses of Television and Video: teachers noted that TV can improve motivation and and help students comprehend more!

Don't use TV as a babysitter! Educational television programs can be a valuable part of your program. Television continues to be extremely popular and learning through television would allow students to learn in a different and exciting way. Using television programming in the classroom can provide a chance for students to take video field trips. They are able to view, explore, and learn about places, people, and cultures that they may not otherwise experience. With a remote control and VCR you can introduce concepts and illustrate terms more easily.
