Our Scottish castle tour

award from www.catalyst-highlands.co.uk

This site was recently given a very nice award from the above folks.

Being true Americans, and coming from a country where 100 years old is old, we thought that seeing some medieval castles would be fun. We were right. We started with Culzean castle on the Southwestern coast near the town of Ayr, went and saw Edinburgh Castle, then drove north towards Aberdeen. Many of the castles were in an area west of Aberdeen. Looking at a map of caslte sites in Scotalnd (which no traveller should be without) shows a concentration of large sites west of Aberdeen. We spent a few days in that area, then drove down through the central Highlands. Eventually we ended up in Glasgow where we saw our last castle.

But enough babble, go ahead and take the tour. You can always click on the all castles link to see thumbnails of all the sites, or just follow the tour links.

Yikes! What's with this background!?

This background image is (I guess) the tartan of the Clan MacGregor. On my mother's side, that's part of our ancestry. The tartan image is from a great page of clan tartans on-line.
