Stirling Castle

12th Century

Castle Stirling is a huge, sprawling complex smack in the middle of Central Scotland. This isn't just a castle, it's a whole tourist event. This was by far the most crowded site that we visited. There were tour buses at this one. One of the main attractions is the display of the Scottish royal regalia in one of the buildings. We stood in line and filed past with the other gawking tourists. Stirling has many buildings, most of which are restored or more recent. There are not really any "ruins" here, it's all in good shape.

The town if Stirling is a fair-sized city. We were looking to get away from it all, though, so we really did not explore.
