Recent Projects
Software implementation for synchronization and protection
switch features
Insured that all issues were resolved by the software
team by reviewing all issues, deferring less important issues,
and adjusting systems requirements to meet schedules without
sacrificing critical system features and performance. Used
ClearCase and DOORS object-oriented database and bug-tracking
tools to ensure system quality.
Worked directly with software development and system test
groups and management to understand testing issues and mediate
conflicts among team members.
Championed needed additions to product features for later
releases, and guided software development team to obtain fast
development of most important system capabilities.
Resolved testing issues to free software team to
concentrate on meeting delivery schedules.
Requirements development for broadband Sonet/SDH optical
transmission and cross-connect system
Developed high-level market-oriented system requirements
for Sonet/SDH synchronization, protection switching, and
interface features for Lucent's Wavestar product line of fiber
optics multiplexers. Developed requirements for Sonet/SDH, ATM,
frame relay, T3/DS3, T1/DS1 interfaces.
Developed TL1 user interface commands and object-oriented
data structures for user provisioning and retrieval of system
status.
Worked as part of team to align all system requirements,
and insure orderly development of a sequence of planned
releases. Resolved conflicts among system requirements documents
by obtaining compromises without sacrificing important market
needs and standards compliance.
Developed requirements using FrameMaker, MS Word, UNIX,
MS Windows software tools. Maintained documents using ClearCase
change control. Managed information on web site using HTML, PDF,
and FrameMaker files.
System definition for Sonet/SDH optical transmission system
Co-author and co-leader of system definition document for
major new Sonet/SDH optical networking & fiber optics
multiplexer product line.
Alignment of customer needs, standards compliance, and
product strategy with development constraints. Working with
multiple teams to align differing interests towards a common
goal. Solving issues to continue the progress of the project.
Presentation of systems application for this system to
senior management review team to obtain continuing support for
the project.
Requirements development planning and leadership
Encouraged and practiced an "early rough draft"
strategy for document development rather than attempt for
immediate perfection
Encouraged and practiced emphasis on development of
critical features for early product releases, while planning to
complete the feature set in later releases.
Wrote initial drafts of several areas of requirements
which were then handed off to other engineers. Provided
continuing support to other systems engineers and developers in
these areas.
Product and market management support
Supported development of customer documentation
Supported developed of customer proposal responses.
Wrote technical sections of product proposals for major
customers.
