Adelphia Internet | Power Link Harness The Power

Need splitter, modem, coax wiring, NIC
This is in their Installation Kit.

Once I get Power Link, do I still need an Internet Service Provider  (ISP)?
No. Power Link is a full-service Internet provider, and includes e-mail,
Usenet news, web hosting, and everything else you expect from your ISP.
You get flat-rate unlimited Internet access.

These are the same terms as Sprint ADSL.  That is, if you want to keep AOL email address, must subscribe anyway.

unique AOL features*, including access to the Internet, for individuals who already have an
Internet connection or access through the work or school environment.

High speed AOL is not available for your phone number.

From this information, I recommend Adelphia cable modem access.  My criteria are cost, speed, installation ease (cable already coming to house, house on ethernet segment, simply hang modem on line), and my personal experience.

Slowdown in Central VA since Sunday 4-28
Has anyone else in Central Virginia noticed a significant slowdown since the morning Sunday April 28th? I am a new "Powerlink" customer in Albemarle County just outside of Charlottesville, VA. I was getting incredible download speeds up to 3.5Mbps & averageing in the 2Mbps range. However, since Sunday morning I average around 500kbps only rarely hitting anywhere near 1Mbps even at  3:00am.

Cost:
 $50/month ADSL,  $35/month Adelphia Cable.
Must buy Cable Modem: $100.  Compaq 6020US has NIC.

Cable Modems at Best Buy:   each $99
Linksys   D-Link

I don't know which to choose.  Can't find review and my experience with both companies is good.

I suggest you keep AOL dialup access for at least another month.  It may be that Adelphia doesn't offer dialup.  Marian's RoadRunner doesn't.  Then you must choose whether to keep AOL over Adelphia's PowerLink ($15/month) and your email address.  You may dialup through Adelphia if allowed (I dial RCN when cable is down), or buy a router and share high-speed access.

Routers at Best Buy:   each $89
Linksys   D-Link

So I propose to call Adelphia to learn if they support dialup, then order the service for your account immediately.  We get the self installation kit, buy a cable modem at Best Buy, and wire you for broadband.

I did similar research for my sister Mary in 2001.
