The sequences that are now missing include:
- David's arrival at the party and his interaction with Roger until both of them spot Carolyn at the top of the stairs. They compliment her on how attractive she looks, and Roger leaves the scene. A dazed Carolyn descends the staircase to ask David if Barnabas has arrived, and David replys that he has. Carolyn then surveys the crowd (which is still seen briefly, but out of context), but she only spots Stokes carrying on a conversation with her mother and Jeff. In her weakened state, Carolyn becomes vaguely aware of snippets of conversations as the people around her discuss the recent attacks. She is finally able to spot Barnabas with Julia, and she moves in their direction.
- Sometime later, Roger argues with David about going to bed until David spots Maggie coming by with Jeff and Barnabas. David pleads with Maggie not to leave and uncharacteristically apologizes for what he has done. Barnabas becomes seperated from the group by other guests passing by, and Julia seizes the opportunuity to press Barnabas for a time to get information on the "original" Barnabas' memoir and the family in England. She asks to meet Barnabas for lunch, but he evades by saying he must go to Bangor on business. (This exchange also gives the audience their first inkling that Julia's interest in Barnabas goes beyond family history.) Barnabas is then upset to see that Maggie and Jeff have moved on.
- Later still, Barnabas finally manages to get Maggie alone in the library. Maggie is uneasy at having left the party, and Barnabas tries to counter with the notion that the original Barnabas and Josette had probably done the same. But Maggie innocently points out that they are not those people. Barnabas sincerely asks Maggie to explain about herself, but she believes herself to be uninteresting. Barnabas explains that she is to him and he hopes to have time to get to know her. Maggie points out that she is leaving, and it is then that Barnabas passes by the doorway and is spotted by Carolyn.
