Page Three: The Picnic

There aren't many scenes in Night of Dark Shadows that depict the loving relationship of Quentin and Tracy before the insinuation of Angelique's spirit into their lives. The reason behind this situation is that several scenes of that type were deleted during the marathon editing session that trimmed the film to its current running time.

One sequence which focused on the couple's marriage appears in the Night of Dark Shadows script immediately following the ones involving Quentin's 1810 vision of Charles and Gabriel's quarrel. Quentin and Tracy settle down outside the greenhouse for a relaxing picnic during which Quentin sketches Tracy, and then the two explore the greenhouse, unaware that through the distortion of the greenhouse glass Angelique's spirit is watching them. The scene was intended to give the audience their first glimpse of Angelique.
