Bartolo Colon went 11 strong innings as the KansasCity Royals defeated the
Seattle Mariners in 12 innings 1 to 0 at Kauffman Stadium.
Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings. KansasCity ended up
winning it in the 12th inning. After two outs Denny Hocking lined a one-base
hit. Kenny Lofton was next and he slapped a base-hit. Omar Vizquel then
laced a single making KansasCity the victors to the delight of the home town
faithful. KansasCity had 10 hits for the afternoon while Seattle had 2.
Kent Mercker(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Masato
Yoshii(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 4 hits and no
walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
