Phil Nevin slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Metrodome as the Minnesota
Twins beat the Seattle Mariners by the count of 22 to 16.
Nevin enjoyed a great day at the plate. He blasted a solo shot in the 1st
inning, doubled scoring a run in the 2nd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of
the park (his 19th of the season) in the 5th inning and slapped a one-base
hit in the 6th inning. Minnesota provided plenty of action in the 1st inning
when they had 6 runs on 7 hits and the 5th inning which saw them plate 8 runs
on 10 hits. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
The winning pitcher was Willis Roberts(1-0) who allowed 7 runs in 3 and 2/3
innings. Mark Wohlers earned the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Curt
Schilling(6-3). He was touched for 6 homeruns in his 8 innings of work.
