Junior Spivey rocketed 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Kauffman Stadium where the
Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians 15 to 8.
Spivey had a big day at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the
1st inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 2nd inning, popped a two-run
clout over the fence (his 7th of the season) in the 3rd inning and stroked a
one-base hit in the 7th inning. Kansas City provided plenty of action in the
2nd inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits, the 3rd inning with 4 runs on 5
hits and the 7th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits. Kansas City
out-hit Cleveland for the game, 22 hits to 13.
Ryan Franklin(3-0) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 6 innings. Hector Mercado
earned his 1st save. Glendon Rusch(2-1) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3
homeruns in 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
The Kansas City ballclub's record now stands at 9-11. John Duff was pretty
down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something
like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
