Randy Wolf held Houston scoreless on just 2 hits and Tim Salmon cracked a
homer and had 5 RBI at Minute Maid Field as the powerful Pittsburgh Pirates,
running on all cylinders, ripped the Houston Astros by a large 10 to 0
margin.
Salmon enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 24th of the season) in the 2nd inning, hit a single scoring two
baserunners in the 3rd inning and tripled plating a run in the 5th inning.
Pittsburgh had 16 hits for the afternoon.
For Wolf(12-6) it was his 3rd shutout this year. Kyle Lohse(9-6) ended up with
the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.
Darrell Sutton was impressed with Wolf and his 10 strikeouts. 'It's tough to
generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'
