Kansas City had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs using 3 hits. Jorge Piedra started the inning off right when he lined a base-hit. Angel Berroa stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Darin Erstad then doubled resulting in a run. Quinton McCracken came up and he was hit by a pitch. One out later, Michael Barrett stepped up to the plate and he smacked a single giving Kansas City the victory and sending the 13,535 home-town fans home happy. Overall Kansas City out-hit Chicago (AL) 14 to 8. Blaine Boyer(2-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Eddie Guardado(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. With this win, Kansas City has a 21-30 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Patrick Whelan was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
