| We are enroute to Yaroslavl by bus with several sightseeing stops. Dave Clapp, founder of SANS in 1984, has crossed the road to photograph an old wooden house. |
Probably the most successful stop for us is our last one -- an old monastery in Rostov. Within the complex there is a large bell tower, two major churches, one with old wooden-tiled domes. A small museum provides guided tours of the complex and the staff have stayed late to accommodate us. We are even able to sing in one of the lovely acoustic spaces. (Rostov is a favorite visiting place for local people and four of us return another evening with our hosts to see a different monastery and enjoy supper together in a local restaurant.) |

| Two lovely churches within the monastery walls. |
| The intricately painted walls are lovely, and the roof detail fun and captivating. |

| We arrive nearly at closing time and just make the bellringing demonstration Anatoly has hoped to arrange. It is a fantastic aural and visual display -- a type of change ringing. The ringers seem like puppeteers pulling their ropes and dwarfed by their instruments. The second largest bell is rung from within. |
| During our tour we see wonderful frescoes in one of the churches. |
| The museum makes a welcoming addition to this complex. |
