Prairie Moon Has New Arrivals!

"Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett, $ 25.00, hardcover

Another beautiful novel from the author of The Magician's Assistant. I don't want to describe any of this story because it is so delicious to learn each bit as the author reveals it. It is about love. There is the mysterious love of a Japanese industrialist for opera, the hungry love of a poor girl for education, the re-discovered love of an ambassador for his wife, the simple, yet powerful love of a revolutionary for his brother. Worth it for the opportunity to read about the Russian's love for the famous soprano. A large number of diverse characters are thrown together with surprising consequences.

"Nickel and Dimed". by Barbara Ehrenreich, $ 23.00, hardcover

Ehrenreich writes simply and eloquently about the life she experienced when she tried to make ends meet working at low-apying jobs. Many comentators have warned of the problems America may face with the growing wage gap. This book is a must for all of us looking for ways to solve the problem.

"Blue Jean: What Young Women are Thinking, Saying, and Doing" edited by Sherry S. Handel, $ 14.95, paperback

Here is a collection of terrific teen writing which first appeared in the magazine Blue Jean. When girls read the interesting essays, excellent fiction, and sensible advice for serious questions which make up this book they will feel as if they have a new friend.
