The Madman

What drove Mason Crane to kill fifteen children at the Woodland Heights Elementary School's Christmas play is beyond many people's imagination. For the towns people, having him locked away in the town's maximum security mental institution was not enough. The sight of young children being brutally murdered with an ax still remains fresh in their minds...even thirteen years later.

Mason To Be Moved!

The local paper's headline brings joy to many of the residents. "Mason Crane to be moved to Central." Inside the Woodland Heights Hospital the staff prepares to move Mason. Three orderlies make the walk down to the room where Mason Crane has been locked up for over thirteen years. They carry straight jackets, restraining devises and a clipboard full of legal paperwork. Their mood is relaxed , they've done this before. One of the orderlies Dave, briefs a rookie Gary, on the procedure they will use to move Mason. "Are you nervous?" Dave asks. Gary replies, "It's my first day...are you sure you guy's need me? I could go change a bedpan or something." Keeton looks over at Gary with a helpless look. "Don't worry it's no big deal!"

The three orderlies approach the solid wood door. A small window about six inches square is the only way to look into the small room. Dave peers into the room. "There he is! " He grabs Gary and moves him forward, "Take a look." Gary looks through the small window. On the bed sits the madman. His back is towards the door making it hard to see his face. His breathing is deep and quick giving his body a rapid up and down motion. Gary pulls away from the window, "Are sure you need me?" Dave confidently explains that there is nothing to worry about.

The key slips into the lock on the door. The tumblers click. The feeling of safety washes away as Dave turns the key and unlocks the door. He looks back at the guys, "Are you ready?" Keeton nods yes while Mark remains agitated. The door slowly opens Dave looks at the bed where Mason was sitting. He's gone! Suddenly from the corner of the room Mason runs towards the heavy door and crashes into it. The door catches Dave in the middle of his body and cracks his rib cage. Blood pours out of his opened chest and mouth. Keeton quickly pushes his shoulder into the door trying to free Dave from Mason's force. Mason continuously slams the door into Dave's chest. The sound of cracking is heard with each slam. Keeton waves Gary over hoping the extra help will free Dave. Gary runs over and slams his shoulder into the door. It barely moves. The two relax and slam there shoulders into the door again. Still nothing. Dave's body is now ripping apart. Mason's force is unbelievable. Keeton and Mark relax and again preparing for the next blow, suddenly Mason swings the door open. The two Orderlies fall forward but then step back. They're waiting to see what Mason's going to do. In an instant, Mason reaches down and picks up the clipboard that Dave was carrying and sends it flying like a Frisbee. The clipboard hits Keeton, splitting his forehead. Keeton falls back against the wall, the clipboard is lodged in his brain. Mason looks at Gary who yells and runs down the hall. Mason exits the room. The madman is loose.
