COURSE CONTENT:
TBA.
ASSESSMENT POLICY:
Homework/Classwork: All assignments are to be completed on time. No credit will be given for incomplete work or work submitted after due dates.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be issued routinely (usually announced, but not limited to). There will also be an "Warm-Up" and MCAS Practice quizzes at the start of almost every class session. Each Warm-Up / MCAS Practice counts for 10-points. At the end of each marking period, the scores will be combined and counted as one "quiz."
Tests: Tests will always be announced several days in advance. Midyear and Final exams will be given extra weight (TBA).
Projects: Expect a project during each marking term. Projects will be graded on a rubric.
End-of-Term (Report card) grades will be derived from the following distribution:
| Classwork/Homework | 20% |
| Projects | 10% |
| Quizzes & Tests [Each Test = 3x each Quiz] |
70% |
The final grade for the year will be an average of the four quarter term grades. If the instructor deems extenuating circumstances warrants a final grade to be determined by some other means, such extenuating circumstances will be thoroughly discussed with the student in a private conference before the issuance of the final grade.
CALCULATORS & OTHER RESOURCES:
It is recommended that all students obtain their own calculators for use at home. The brand/style of calculator is largely a matter of personal preference, but it is vital that the calculator be at least a scientific calculator. Some students may wish to invest in a graphing calculator. The style I recommend is the TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator.
In my web pages you will find a page of Useful Links for further explorations into math and science topics. I expect to incorporate some use of the Internet into this course, and my pages will be our starting point.

ATTENDANCE:
It is important that you come to school every day and be present for every class session. The school's attendance policy will be rigidly followed. Written excuses for absences should be presented immediately to all your instructors upon your return. (Please consult your handbook for a list of those absences that are deemed "excused.")
PROCEDURES REGARDING ABSENCES FOR MAKE-UP WORK:
A pacing schedule for each unit will be distributed to each student as we progress through the year. Due dates for work will be posted in class. If you are absent for more than two days, you or your parent should contact your counselor at 787-7220 and your counselor will contact your teachers for assignments.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:
In order to benefit from class instruction and activities, it is important that you come prepared to participate and to follow the instruction. This means not only doing your homework, but bringing your text, notebook, pen/pencil and calculator. It is expected that you will be seated when the bell rings so that instruction can begin promptly. Students late for class will lose credit for the MCAS Practice question (there is no make up) and will be subject to additional disciplinary actions, as per school policy. Special note: students are dismissed by their instructor, not by the bell. There will be no standing at the door waiting for the bell at the end of the class.
CONTACTING YOUR INSTRUCTOR & EXTRA-ASSISTANCE:
Wednesday is my designated extra-help afternoon, when I will plan to stay at least one hour to assist students. However, I generally am available every afternoon (except Tuesdays due to faculty meetings). Please do not hesitate to take advantage of this extra time. If any students have computers and Internet access at home, feel free to email me with any questions /concerns.
