Astronomy Picture of the Day |
![]() |
Each student will be assigned a date where they will have to:
Access the web site for the "Astronomy Picture of the Day."
Prepare a 1-page report on the picture or some topic from space science.
The APOD web site includes a paragraph explanation of the photo and is loaded with links for further research. (You can also search the site for pictures / topics which may be of more interest to you.) There is also an online link to a glossary of astronomy terms. Your paper / presentation on your chosen picture does not have to be a FULL lecture. Find something about the picture that interests you or which could interest the rest of the class and focus on that. You are not expected to become an expert in astronomy for the day, so don't panic if you find you cannot understand every detail in about the topic.
Want other options? Try the Hubble Space Telescope's web pages. Other resources are also permissable. I do suggest the APOD or Hubble sites, as the quality of the material there is exceptional.
If you are having difficulties accessing the web, you may turn to traditional print sources to find a research topic in the field of space science.
Be sure to include in your write-up how mathematics plays an important role in how we understand the universe around us.
And remember ... you are
not expected to become an expert ...Raising good questions is often as interesting as explaining details! Need help on the format for your paper? Click on
