Some sites that I enjoy:
Web Artwork:
- THE ALULA DIMENSION - Ebon Fisher explores
human communication and social meaning through a visual language of schematic symbols. In his "Ventings"
section I found what I consider to be the best definition of the Web that I've seen: "In a swirling
confluence of fingers, neurons, and electricity, we witness a
fundamental trust played out. We upload our tender memories into cyberspace, and download new memories from it."
- The Place - A truly beautiful web site.
One piece, titled "Life With Father" tells a very personal and moving story through a poetic blend of text and images.
This is still my favorite work of art made for the web.
- FFF Homepage - A funky, evolving collage of web pages produced by a collaboration of artists.
- Adaweb - Good ideas and experiments in web artwork, including
Jenny Holzer's "Please Change Beliefs".
- SILENCE - Simple, clear,
and an unusually effective use of hypertext to present an idea.
- www.jodi.org - An aggressively original use of text layered
with bold graphic patterns that evokes maps, topography, radar screens and other technical
interfaces. Don't ask me what it means.
- Representation to Identification - Animated abstracted "portraits" by artist Steve Miller.
This piece uses animation to contrast traditional portraiture with abstraction. An excellent use of animation to make a point.
- Unauthorized U.S. Postage Stamps - This is a surprising, amusing and thought provoking
display of carefully crafted "unauthorized" U.S. Postage stamps. What's scary is how close they look
to the real thing.
- The Tackiest Place In America -
This site features photos of some amazingly tacky, and oddly endearing architecture, diners,
signs, and other aesthetic debris found along the highways of America.
Art and Literature:
- Enterzone - A high quality web-zine chock full of good writing and art.
- The Birdhouse - A collection of artwork and writing by a group of talented folks.
