Keith Martin - Saxes, Flute, Vocals
Original Member of Brass Attack (1995)
Composer, orchestrator, and conductor for the 1980 Academy Award winning documentary “Karl Hess: Toward Liberty”.
Keith started playing at 10 years old and started his own band at 15. At age 16 (1973) Keith joined a popular Springfield area wedding/club band The Winemakers that he performed with for 25 years. (Their main competition was Dave Fournier’s band Lamplighters). While gigging every weekend Keith attended Berklee, starting as a performance major. Keith soon discovered a hidden talent for composition and arranging and changed his major to composition with a concentration in film composition. In 1978 Keith was the arranger, composer and instrumentalist for the Boston based band D. G. and Magic. Also in 1978 he organized and created the first annual Berklee Seniors Composition Festival.
In July of 1979 Keith composed the film score “Karl Hess: Toward Liberty”. Upon completion of the score Keith moved to Hollywood, to try to break into the movie business, where he worked as a Mastering Engineer at AT&T Recording Studios, Hollywood Ca. From 1979-1980.
Missing friends and family, Keith moved back to Western Mass and once again started playing the local club scene. During the early 1980’s Keith was the Musical Director for several musicals including Godspell and How to Succeed in Business Without Even Trying.
As a founding member of the band, Keith was the original keyboardist of Brass Attack, he was asked to write up arrangements and re-discovered his true love of arranging and composing.
Keith would like to thank all the members of Brass Attack for their continued friendship, and their musical abilities. As an arranger you give me unlimited instumentations and a goldmine of musical talent to arrange for.
