A Selection of Work from the Late, Great, Dyke Performance Poet

Lisa King in the feature Scent uVa Butch, a documentary by Shoshana Rosenfeld
Beloved, pioneering, dyke performance poet Lisa King died on February 13, 2006 at the age of 45. You can see photos of Lisa and read tributes from a variety of people who knew her at http://www.truthserum.org/lisaking.

Lisa was a wonderful writer and performer who was part of the champion National Poetry Slam team in 1993, was featured in the film SlamNation and founded the National Queer Slam at Outwrite (a national GLBT writers' conference) in 1995. She inspired audiences and humbled fellow writers whenever she got in front of a mike. The following is from a live recording of poetry she performed to win a championship bout of The Amazon Slam* in December of 1996. These tracks were taken from a cassette, so please excuse the hiss and hum. Some of this audio is on MySpace where it can be either streamed or downloaded. Either send MP3s to or direct to these sites everyone who has or hasn't heard of Lisa. If you are renaming MP3s please make sure you include "LisaKing" in the title. She wanted her name and her work to be known.
