    Prospects for 1971

Coach O'Leary in his first year at Notre Dame has inherited an experienced, well-balanced squad. The Lacrosse Club has been historically one of the most active and successful club sports at Notre Dame. The squad this year is particularly balanced with regard to player positions and academic levels.

    · Among the experienced midfielders is senior Jim Laffey who graduated from Bethlahem Central High School, Delmar, New York where he played football, wrestling and lacrosse. At Notre Dame, Jim is a psychology major, on the Dean's List and plans to teach social studies on the secondary school level. Despite a leg injury last year, Jim is a tough competitor, well known for his now perfected blind side moving pick.

    · Senior Bob Perry comes from Holliston High School in Mass. A veteran there of cross-country and baseball, Bob started playing lacrosse four years ago at the midfield position. A sociology major, Bob plans to work in the state penal system after the service. Subject to perenial injuries, Bob still remains one of the midfield heads.

    · Another four year man and major contributor to the team is Pete Murray, a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Athletically, in high school, Pete played football. Peter is now an English major, hoping to teach high school in that subject. Murray is a crease attackman with the height, moves and desire needed there.

    · Jerry Kammer has played the goal at Notre Dame now for his fourth session. Coming from Loyola High School in Towson, MD, Jerry has been nothing short of outstanding, winning the Most Improved Player Award in '69. Kammer hopes to teach English at the secondary level.

    · Another Senior, Kent Hildabrandt, comes off Notre Dame's gridiron from the offensive line to shore up the lacrosse team's defense. Kent played football at Elgin High School, Elgin, IL and is now a sociology major, hoping to teach and coach. Kent is literally an imposing immovable force.

    · A first year law student, Paul Reagan, is a native of Levittown, NY and attended Gen. Douglas McArthur High School. Paul played lacrosse at Rutgers University and graduated in 1969. After graduation he taught and coached at Rutgers Prep, outside of New Brunswick, NJ. Paul is very quick, with good balance - never in the same place twice.

    · Kenny Lund, a senior from Waynesville, Missouri, is an English major here and hopes to teach and coach on the high school level. Kenny, who is a co-captain this year, has received the Nappy Award in '69, Most Improved Player in '68 and was top scorer last year. Kenny's speciality is a little of this and a little of that.

    · Frank O'Connor is a five year veteran of Notre Dame and the Lacrosse Club. Frank played football, cross country and wrestling at Hornell High School, Hornell, NY. Frank, a fifth year student in Art, has the all-important desire and drive to make his mark at attack.

    · Fred Morrison is a doctoral candidate in Aerospace Engineering. Fred has played lacrosse here for four years and wrestled here as an undergraduate. A native of Corry, PA, Fred wrestled, played football, track and baseball in high school. This season he will be found starting at defense. Fred is efficient, practiced, omnipresent and clearly effective.
