From John Gray:
In 1978, super fast middie Mike Kinsella bounced a great shot in practice and
broke the goalie's jaw. The goalie? His roommate Rich Mazzei ! Had that
thing wired for a long time, but Rich came back to star in the spring of his
senior year.
Mark Carberry was a crease defenseman who had a knack for great poke checks
and putting people on their butts hard. I was kind of fast (back then) so
most of the time I skirted his wide turf. One practice I came from the left
outside position off a nice pick, accepted the pass from the other wing
middie, and was about to shoot quickly when I found myself being drilled into
the ground. Mark was up in a flash, standing over a flat out me with his big
smile, and everything in my world from the ground view was bright green.
Mark, the other players, the sky near Stephan Center, everything was green.
Sound was muffled, I could see mouths moving but could not hear much at all,
and I tingled all over as I tired unsuccessfully to breathe for a bit. From
then on I stayed clear from Mark, and I don't think he ever really tagged me
again.
