Do you want Your Own Home On the Web?

Most people and businesses do not need elaborate and expensive web sites. You will be surprised at how inexpensive and informative simple web sites can be. Check out  some of my client's sites.

To set up a web site, there are a few things you will need to do:

  1. An internet site to host your web pages. Many Internet Service Providers (called ISPs like: RCN,Comcast,AOL) do not charge for this service. Check with your Internet Service Provider. You can also go to web hosting sites that can be found using Google.
  2. Build your web site. Web page(s) about you or your business. This can be done by yourself using HTML or software tools like MS Front Page. Also, many hosting services offer tools which are pretty simple to use that will guide you to build a web page.
  3. Register a Domain Name. If you use one of the free ISP sites, you may end u with a URL like http://users.ispname.com/your-userid/your-home-page-name.html  ( you can see this can be cumbersome for someone to type into a browser). To avoid this you can register your own Domain name as: ndeamato.com. This will allow users to get to your website by just typing www.ndeamato.com in your browser instead of the free ISP as shown above. Then by using web forwarding, where you forward traffic from a clear web address to an existing confusing web address. You can use make it so that a user just enters your domain name and they will be forwarded to where your web pages are actually hosted.
  4. Create an email account. If you have an ISP (rcn, comcast..) you will probably have an free email id. You can also obtain email ids from other places as hotmail and AOL.
  5. Promote your website in various search engines.
