There are two situations where you need to install WinXP support for the Fireport 40 scsi card: 1. You boot from a scsi drive and need the "3rd party drivers" that XP install wants you to press F6 for. 2. You have already installed XP on your IDE drive, but need a working Fireport for your scsi peripherals. For situation 2, do the following. a. Find scsi.inf on your hard drive - should be in your c:\windows\inf folder. b. Rename it scsi.bak c. Copy the enclosed scsi.inf you just downloaded into that inf folder. d. Place the fireport.sys on a floppy or into some folder you will be able to find. e. Start device manager, and under SCSI and RAID controllers, find the Fireport card that probably has an exclamation point next to it. f. Double click on it and choose the driver tab, then Update driver. g. Choose install from a list or specific location, then Don't search I will choose the driver to install. h. Pick the Fireport, and then direct it to the place where you put the fireport.sys. For situation 1, use the fireport.exe file to make a floppy with the correct installation files. a. Execute fireport.exe, and follow the directions. You will need a blank, formatted floppy disk for this. b. Start WindowsXP installation, and when it says to press F6 to install 3rd part scsi drivers, do so, and follow the instructions, using the floppy you created in step a. for this. I have used situation 2 above very successfully on all versions of WindowsXP. My SCSI CD readers and burner, plus scsi scanner all work fine. I personally have not used situation 1, but others have and reported that it works great. Let me know if you have any problems Mark Siegel nycman@rcn.com
