9/23: Sent out DargonZine 19-7, which features the debut story from Trey Holliday, our
first new writer in three years, as well as the second installment of Nick Wansbutter's "Great Houses War" serial, and a three-way collaboration between Dafydd, Liam, and Jim Owens, plus an editorial interview with Carlo and Mark about their new zine, Arcane Twilight.
9/17: With autumn in the air, rode around South Acton with Janine and made our way to Shelbourne Farm to pick apples. The apple-laden return ride was a bit of a back-breaker, tho!
9/16: Celebrated the other leader of the Quad Cycles training rides, the insuperable Johnny H, who bid us a fond adieu as he heads off to the west coast.
9/11: Returned to the New England Conservatory for the first time in five and a half years, catching John Gibbons' excellent performance of Bach's complete Goldberg Variations on harpsichord.
9/8: Achieved a goal so ambitious that in six years as a rider I never dreamt it was possible: raised more than $6,000 for this year's Pan-Mass Challenge ride to support cancer research, treatment, and prevention, proudly becoming a PMC "Heavy Hitter" for the first time ever!
9/3: Spent one of the last days of summer with Janine and her friend Deb, visiting Halibut Point and my mother's favorite beach in my hometown -- Good Harbor in Gloucester -- all in a soaking rain, but finished the day off nicely with a trip to newly-redecorated Punjab in Arlington.
8/29: What a week! Within two days I had major fights with two close friends, and another friend admitted to the hospital with a serious illness.
8/26: Spent the weekend up in Maine, mostly scrubbing floors.
8/23: Met up with old friend Nicole -- the woman I rode this year's PMC in honor of -- for the first time since her chemo ended, at Sunset Grill and enjoyed an Isle of Skye Wee Beast in celebration of her new-grown hair before heading over to Rangoli for some of the best aloo mutter around.

8/21: Began the day with the tragic news of the death of one of the world's most talented and inspirational reggae artists: Rastaman Joseph Hill of Culture. However, the day ended with a surprise package from South Africa. My former writer Janine was on vacation in her homeland, and had shipped me a goatskin hand drum to add to my collection!
8/19: Renewed a number of old friendships and met a bunch of interesting new friends at this year's Where's George BBQ at Dr. Ask's out in Lexington.
8/16: Celebrated my riding buddy Charlie's birthday and superhuman charity ride achievements with dinner and drinks with a bunch of friends at the Beacon Street Tavern.
8/13: Caught the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's free open-air performance of The Taming of Shrew on Boston Common with Janine and some of her colorful friends.
8/12: Went and checked out the newest exihibit at the BPL's Norman B. Leventhal Map Center: Journeys of the Imagination, which included the world's oldest known globe, prepared in advance of Columbus' voyage of exploration.
8/6: Sunday I was determined to ride within myself, and that was reinforced by riding with Charlie and a couple lasses from Team Kermit. The pace was relaxed, and we spent a ton of time at the rest stops, and then we were slowed even further when Charlie broke a spoke, which needed to be repaired. In the end, he and I caught up with the girls and shepherded them in to their first finish in Provincetown to end a wonderful PMC ride, made doubly so by my sponsors donating a record amount to the Jimmy Fund this year! See photos and read the travelogue of my 2006 Pan-Mass Challenge.
8/5: After losing my buddy Charlie and skipping most of the water stops, I wound up riding alone for most of the first day of this year's Pan-Mass Challenge. Were it not for the heat, not eating properly, and in general overdoing it, I would have been able to spend less time at the final water stop in Wareham. As it is, I missed breaking my course record by only three minutes, but it was probably better that I didn't!

7/30: Very mixed day, with a disappointing brunch at Clery's in the South End, a nice but short hike up Great Blue Hill, an abortive trip to Houghton's Pond, a frustrating ride but eventually successful dip in Walden Pond, and then dinner at Cheesecake Factory with Janine, interrupted by a distraught friend bearing bad news. Oy!
7/29: Tasty Indian food at Namaskar, then went down to MIT to see a very student production of Threepenny Opera with Janine.
7/25: Had a most savory Thai dinner at King & I with Janine.
7/21: Went back to Scranton for the third time in three weeks to continue configuring the client's system. Thankfully, I also obtained remote access, which will obviate additional travel, but then I got stranded in the Allentown PA airport from 5pm to 10am the next morning...
7/19: After the usual Wednesday evening dharma talk at CIMC, had a long talk with my friend Janine.
7/15: Attended a long-awaited one-day workshop on Wise Speech led by Narayan at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center.
7/13: And then back to Scranton again to actually do what I was supposed to get done the week before...
7/8: As soon as I got back from Scranton, it was off to Maine for the weekend.
7/6: Right after the holiday, I flew to scenic Scranton PA to do a two day long software install. Finally got access to the system I was supposed to work on just 30 minutes before I had to leave for the airport.
