NOTES

Wives are listed under their married names, with the family name appearing second to last.  Thus the name of the wife of Hans Niemann, Catharina, born Coordts, is listed as Catharina Coordts Niemann.

For the sake of privacy, the only ancestors and descendants listed are those born before about 1900.

The surnames among the cousins of The Texas Niemann's occur through marriages of siblings of the ancestors.  E.g., for the surname Braten:   Marie Margaretha Niemann, the sister of the ancestor Hans Niemann, married a Braten (first name unknown).   (There are two occurrences of the surname Hinrichsen in this way.   Also the surnames Hansen and Carstens occur this way in addition to being ancestral surnames .  But it is not clear that the two Hinrichsens are related, nor that the two Carstens and the two Hansens are.)

The designation of a 'region', especially "Schleswig-Holstein" in light of its unusual political history, may not be accurate for the relevant date.   It is meant only to indicate a geographical location as understood today.

        ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:

Information and stories were saved and shared among many cousins of the Texas and Schleswig-Holstein Niemann's.  These include, especially: Werner Tams, Johannes Tams, Renate Marquardt, and, most recently, Uwe Tams.

The Church archives of the Dom Kirche of the City of Schleswig were kindly made available by the personnel there.

But more interestingly, in the case of the family of  Johann Anton and Anna Schlegel Coordts, information on the children comes from entries found in the opening pages of an old family book of sermons.
