         Baptised 12 Aug 1864.  Schleswig-Holstein was part of       
         Denmark until 1864 when the Danes were driven out and they  
         ceded it to Austria-Prussia in the Peace of Vienna, October 
         30, 1864.                                                   
                                                                  
         Werner Tams letter of Sept. 8, 1991:                        
             Your grandfather [Johannes Niemann] was born under      
         Denmark's rule.  But [there] was a war ... between          
         Denmark-Prussia and Austria and that Danish-Prussian war    
         ended the 18th of July, 1864.

         Moved to Norristown, Pa., installed Sept 30, 1888, resigned 
         Oct 5, 1896.  Four children were born there, Erich, Freda,  
         Annie and Richard.                                          
         [Moved to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., installed Nov. 1, 1896.  Hans  
         Anton Samuel born there Aug. 21, 1899.]                     
         Moved to Columbia, Pa -- 1901 [2-5-1900, St Paul's German   
         Lutheran Church].  Mother struck with polio -- helpless and 
         bedfast 15 mo.  Recovered partially due to osteopathic      
         treatments.                                                 
         Moved to Dorseyville [Pa.] (Annie died)                     
         Next [moved] to Braddock, Pa.                               
         Dad went to Hawaii [from Easter 1908 to Easter 1909] for a  
         year supplying for a Lutheran minister in church and        
         parochial school on the Island of Kauai, [which minister]   
         was making a world tour.                                    
         The family moved to Pittsburgh, Pa where Erich was employed 
         and attended Carnegie Tech studying for degree of Electrical
         Engineering.                                                
         Dad [Johannes] returned after the year and had a pastorate  
         in Germania, Pa. (Allegheny Mountains).                     
         From there we moved to New Hamburg, Ont., Canada [near      
         Kitchener, Ont.], remained 3 years -- Dad Pastor of St.     
         Peter's Lutheran Church.  Mother's sister -- Mrs. William   
         Merlau lived on a farm at Wellesley, Ont. about 15 mi. from 
         New Hamburg.  Two children.  Katie Merlau, William Merlau --
         Katie died.  William living on home place.                  
         War came in 1914 (in Canada).                               
         Dad went ino the Bapt. Church at New Hamburg about 1913.    
         Supplied in Elgin, Ia.                                      
         Had first Bapt. pastorate in Kyle, Texas; moved to Texas in 
         1914.                                                       
         Moved to Austin 1915.  Freda married, E. John Meyers.       
         Mother died -- 1920 -- buried in Austin, Tex.
