David Michalski's writings include "Cities Voices Memory Collage," a chapter in Art and the Performance of Memory (Routledge 2002), "The Bibliographic Imagination: Tracing the 19th Century Origins of the Internet," an essay in the Journal of American & Comparative Cultures, 23.3 & 24.4. and his book, Cosmos and Damian: a World Trade Center Collage, an ethnographic scrapbook on corporate culture in New York City between 1994 and 2000, is now available from Bootstrap Press. Michalski also serves as electronic editor for the journal, XCP: Cross Cultural Poetics.

"Buffalo: Notebook on My Return," excerpted here, is his ongoing study of memory and the interaction of poetry and place. Made up of local history artifacts and fragments from family stories, Michalski's open notebook explores how personal and social memories inform both the personality of a city and social life of the mind.
