Malatose is a heavy metal band from eastern Missouri. They are currenty in the studio rerecording their first album, Malicia. One might have expected a bit of resistance from the band when Perry Fect, the new owner of Underground Milhouse, asked them to rerecord the album with Dead Republican. "Not at all," says Jed Gruber, lead singer of Malatose. "In fact, we were glad. We hated the sound of the original album. We heard what Dead Republican was doing with his album and we really dug it."

Despite Gruber's words, many Malatose fans are concerned that Malicia will be transformed into just another Dead Republican album. "I've heard that too. But that's not going to happen either. He lets us do our thing. What he's really trying to do is get us closer to the sound we want to present. He's really got a talent for that. It's not like he's rewriting our songs, he's just helping us record it better."

Malicia will be released in early 1997.
