January 2, 1999,
This section of the site is dedicated to the geneology of my maternal
grandfather Chester Everett Tucker. His family come mainly from Fitchburg, Massechusetts, and before
that England and Ireland.
Chester, my "Poppy" died when I was about eight. My recollections
are of him are hazy: falling asleep on the sofa when we would
come to visit ("how rude!" I thought); paying me a penny for every
magnolia leaf I cleaned up from his patio then reducing it to
half a penny after the first hundred; taking "nature walks" at
a too slow shuffling pace; and general grumpiness. On one occasion
when his health was failing and his grumpiness was at it's peak
I remember telling my sister "I won't be sad when he dies".
My elders tell me now that my youthful impressions are all wrong,
that he had a sterling personality and a real way with people.
Shame I never new him better.
I met my Uncle Bob Tucker (Chester's nephew) for the first time
in my life at my grandmother's funeral a couple years ago. He
looked more like my grandfather than any man I had ever seen,
he was jolly and filled with good family stories. He passed me
a family tree that his nephew (my 2nd cousin) Jeffery Tucker had
worked up. It was a wonderful experience to meet new family, especially
at a time when I was losing the last of my grandparents.
Most of my info on the Tucker side come from info supplied by
Jeffery.
