These are one of our favorite places. Whenever we travel, if there is a lighthouse in the area, we try to go out of our way to visit it, and if allowed, climb the tower to the light. We have a very good collection of lighthouse items and memorabilia. Pictures, statues, stamps, plates, and other items can be found all over the house. Why such an interest? Lighthouse are filled with history. In some cases, they have been around for hundreds of years, and have saved many a mariner from damaging his vessel, and injuring or killing his crew and himself. They are very good means of navigation when travelling by sea. Most of them in this country, have been taken over by the United States Coast Guard, some have been made inoperative, others taken over by private groups to restore and preserve these great beacons. Below are some links to sites that give alot of great information on lighthouse. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
