Good Morning Stingray's!! - June 4, 2007 Well, today was the first day of practice and, believe it or not, the weather didn't cooperate! It did warm up enough for the 8 and Unders to get in the water though and the rain held off until the end. Thanks Coaches for being there at 6:20 this morning - even though it was only to tell most people to go home! Just a reminder parents - the temperature needs to be 65 or above in order for the kids to get in the water. We do hold practice if it is raining but not thundering and lightning. Unfortunately, we can't get phone calls out to everyone if practice is going to be cancelled - just use your best judgment about sending your child. One thing that we didn't talk about at the Parent's Meeting is pictures!! Each year at the end of season banquet, we always have a slide show (this is the swimmers favorite part). If you take pictures during the season, at practice, meets, social events, etc., please forward them to me and we will include them in that slide show. Our first "photo op" is this Thursday evening. It's Hot Dog and Pool Night from 5-8 PM at the pool. We provide the hot dogs/brats and lemonade and ask each family to bring a dish to pass - sign up sheets are posted at the pool during practice. The cost is $3.00 per person to eat and $2.00 to swim if you are not a Steeple Run Resident (residents, remember your pool passes). Our Social Committee which plans these wonderful events - Hot Dog Night, Pancake Breakfast and the Pasta and Poster Night is in need of some extra help!! Currently Nancy Reif is handling this by herself - this is really a 2-3 person job so please, please, please give Nancy a hand. The kids really enjoy these events and 1 person can't do this alone. Also, our Mock Meet is this Saturday, June 9 at 8:00 AM (weather permitting). This meet should run about 2 hours and gives us all a chance to get back into the swing of things. If you are new to the team, it's especially important for you to be there so your swimmers can get their first "official" times for the different events. We do not have concessions at this meet so make sure your swimmer(s) have breakfast before they come. Immediately following the Mock Meet, we will do our annual t-shirt tie dying. This is always fun for the whole family and we all look pretty cool in our matching shirts at the meets so make one for everyone. The Tischina's have graciously offered their backyard again this year - for those of you not familiar with their house, they live right next to the pool - follow the wet foot prints!! Remember, this is a messy undertaking so be sure to wear old clothes. Please bring a plain white t-shirt and $2.00 per shirt to help cover the cost of supplies. Sign up sheets will be posted at all practices. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will reschedule the tie dying. I think that covers it for now. Welcome to the team and let's have a great season!!
