Design Plan
Summary of Improvements
- Refurbishing of existing Coleman Fountain and Stackpole sculpture to include cleaning, new mechanical and piping systems, removal of existing fiberglass liner and installation of new plaster basin with granite sides
- New paved plaza, 33 feet out from fountain, recreating the historic plaza that existed prior the 1960s renovation
- New 50'x30' paved, permanent stage on the north side, opposite City Hall, to emphasize the importance of the civic relationship between City Hall and the town square, and that will facilitate the concert series
- New 'Market Walk', a tree lined, circular walkway that will facilitate the Farmer's Market
- Preservation of the A.J. Stevens Monument and all other historical monuments in the plaza
- Planting of 148 new trees
- Removal of 21 trees mainly due to poor health, age, to alleviate suppressed conditions, or allow adequate light for turf
- Replacement of diagonal walkways with new paving
- Addition of a new irrigation and modified drainage system
- Planting of new sod
Construction Status
John F. Otto, Inc. was selected as the contractor on January 6, 2000. The project is under construction and is scheduled for June 7, 2000 completion.
