Traditional Davis Downtown and Residential Design Guidelines

The Historical Resources Management Commission (HRMC) is working with the community to prepare design guidelines for the area bounded by the original 1917 Davis city limits. This area includes the city's commercial core and its three adjacent neighborhoods: Old North Davis, University Avenue/Rice Lane, and Old East Davis. The City Council will consider designating a 1917 Historic/Conservation Overlay District once appropriate design guidelines have been prepared, reviewed and approved. The guidelines are to strive to support the following goals:

1. Protect and preserve neighborhood character, fabric and setting while planning for reasonable growth.

2. Discouraging the demolition of structures that contribute to the district's historic character by providing guidelines for rehabilitation of existing structures.

3. Plan for new commercial and residential infill construction that is compatible and complementary to the character of existing neighborhood areas within the district.

4. Foster economic development in the downtown consistent with its traditional scale and character as identified in the Core Area Specific Plan and General Plan policies.

This web site is being used to enhance the community participation process. The schedule and results of community meetings and workshops, selected analysis, and draft guidelines will be posted on this site.
