Community Participation and Schedule

The Historical Resources Management Commission (HRMC) is sponsoring the community participation effort for developing the design guidelines. The HRMC is working with neighborhood and community groups to establish the criteria in which the guidelines are to be based.

PLANNING PROCESS

The design guidelines process is organized into three phases:

PHASE 1: Defining Design Issues
The primary objective for the first phase is to provide an educational presentation that summarizes preservation and conservation issues and opportunities for the planning area. This information would be used as the initial chapter in the guidelines and to inform the community meetings.

PHASE 2: Design Principles
The objective for the second phase is to establish a popular set of guiding principles that act as a foundation for development standards and design guidelines used in the overlay district.

PHASE 3: Design Guidelines Documents
The objective for Phase 3 is to produce a document that provides guidance to project sponsors, City staff, HRMC, Planning Commission, and City Council in ensuring new development and renovation investments are compatible with the traditional scale and patterns in the overlay district.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

Over the course of the process there will several opportunities for the community to take part in shaping the guidelines. Besides the scheduled meetings below, you can request the HRMC to make a presentation to your community organization.

The following calendar will be periodically updated to reflect the times and places for community meetings and workshops. The results of workshops will also be posted here to provide an ongoing summary of workshop results.
