The Minden Plan for Prosperity Citizens Advisory Committee meet on August 13, 2001 to discuss what features should be included in any planning proposal for North Minden. The following is a summary of recommended of land use, community design and circulation planning features.
Land Use Features
- Plans should feature an integrated pattern of residential, open space, commercial, and community land uses.
- There should be transitional densities between commercial and high-density residential uses and single family residential neighborhoods.
- Commercial development should be developed as districts, not as strips.
- Mixed-use areas should be encouraged and provide focal points for residential neighborhoods and commercial districts.
- Plans for North Minden should indicate the locations of housing types and densities.
Design Features
- Plans for North Minden should include extending the Town's traditional block patterns and architecture.
- Parkways or trails should accentuate the soft edges of the wet lands and natural open space areas.
- Neighborhoods and districts should have open space features as focal points.
- Open space should be visually and physically accessible to the community.
- Design plans for North Minden should feature views of the surrounding mountains.
- The slough should be an open space entry feature and gateway for Minden from US 395.
- North Minden should include street and shade trees along all roads and sidewalks.
Circulation Features
- The natural and urban open spaces in North Minden should include an interconnected system of walkways and trails.
- Ironwood Drive should be considered a local-serving street with pedestrian amenities.
