Galt

Date: February 12, 2000

On February 12 over 20 people participated in a community workshop at the Galt branch library to have input into the library master planning process. There were participants from two branches (Isleton and Galt). They worked as members of three planning teams. The teams mapped their library's in the context of their current and future community, imagined the type of services offered and place their library would be in 20 years, identified their immediate needs, and potential community partners.

Workshop Summary

The participants consider their branch library's conntectiveness to their community. In Galt, the library is central, but not easy to walk to. In the future the growth on the edges of the community may trigger the need for another branch. In Isleton the library is a hub for the small and isolated town. The need for meeting space was important to the future success of both branches. The participants felt the first steps towards accomplishing their long-term vision should be on community awareness. Partnerships for their libraries success included a cross section of community and business organizations with a special focus on schools.
